Sophie's World

Hello to anyone who stumbles upon this blog..it's basically just me talking to myself for now.

At the moment I'm reading the book Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder. My swim coach basically forced me to read it as a way to learn to enjoy swimming more. Well, so far it's just making me hate my coach for many reasons.

The book started out like any other. I was introduced to the main character, Sophie, and her family and friends. Then things started getting strange. And boring. Sophie received letter after letter of philosophy lessons in the mail from a mysterious man named Alberto. I thought my brain was going to explode when I tried to read more than 20 pages of the lessons at once. The author doesn't even try to make philosophy slighty interesting for those who have no interest in it whatsoever, which is a main reason that he wrote the book.

At the point in the story that I have reached(I finally got halfway through after 2 weeks), things are just getting stranger in stranger. People are turning out not to be real and I really don't see how this is helping me with swimming... it's just prevented me from reading my usual fantasy fun books :). I'm probably going to read it through to the end, but that's just because my coach is going to make me...
